
It’s not outdated but it’s also not updated anymore. OpenGL won’t be going anywhere because of how compatible it is with hardware thanks to its abstractions to graphics drivers. These frameworks use platform-neutral virtual resources to free your programming as much as possible from the underlying graphics hardware. OpenGL for OS X is implemented as a set of frameworks that contain the OpenGL runtime engine and its drawing software. OpenGL is available to all Macintosh applications. If any device has adjustable parameters, they will be in a Prefs Pane instead, in System Preferences. The Mac doesn’t have a device manager, because mainly devices manage themselves they almost never need fiddling with or new drivers adding. To find out which graphics card your Mac uses: Click on the Apple menu in the upper left corner of the screen and select About this Mac. You can only upgrade by upgrading to a newer version of the operating system. On Mac OS X the graphics driver is part of the operating system. However, you can still run OpenGL 4 natively on higher versions such as macOS 10.15. OpenGL was deprecated in macOS 10.14 which means that Apple will no longer develop newer versions of OpenGL for macOS.



Technically, you cannot get a (windowed) OpenGL 3.2 context programming purely in C on OS X.
